She is born in Melo, Uruguay, in 1976, where she attends primary and secondary school. In Montevideo she studies Communication in the State’s University. At the same time she studies photography and takes workshops on filmmaking at the Uruguayan Cinema School. She travels to Belgium in 2001 and enters the I.A.D Cinema School in Louvain-la-Neuve, where she got her bachelor’s degree in Cinematography in 2004. In 2004, and together with Stefano Tononi, she starts the independent filmmakers collective

Mariana comes back to her country after five years in exile and she learns his father is leaving the country. The camera dives into her filming archives and in into her life, to tell the story of her father, two brothers and her close friend, who have decided to leave Uruguay in search of new horizons.
